There is one thing that all kiteboarders can all agree on: kiteboarding is the best sport in the world! If you never had the chance to give it a try, you should definitely go for it! At some point in your progression, you are going to need to buy some kite gear. Here are some pointers on what kite you should get for yourself.
TYPE OF KITE The first thing you want to consider when buying kite gear is the type of kite that you want to get. For a beginner, a perfect first kite would be an all around kite, so you can do a little bit of everything and see what you prefer. When you know what you want to do, then definitely go with a more specific kite, like a wave kite, a freestyle kite, a foil kite, etc.
WHAT SIZES? When choosing the size of the kites that you’re going to buy, you want to think about the place that you will be kiteboarding. If you will be kiteboarding in an area where the wind is mostly light, then you should buy bigger kites like 12 meters and 15 meters. If you are going to be kiteboarding in an area with stronger winds, then you should get smaller kites like 8 meters, 10 meters and 12 meters.
USED OR NEW? This is a question that everyone asks themselves before buying kite gear. Should I buy used kite gear, or new kite gear? There are a few factors to consider here. First, you want to think about your budget. If money is not an issue for you, then you should definitely buy new gear. That way, you are sure that it will be in perfect condition, and safe for you to ride. Furthermore, most of the companies have their kites guaranteed so if anything breaks in the first year, they can fix it for you. If you are not sure that you have to budget to buy new gear, than you can definitely buy used gear. Just make sure that it is still in good condition, that you are buying a good type of kite for you and that it is safe for you to use.
